How long does it take?

Chronic Hepatitis B

Antiviral treatment for chronic infection may last many years.  In cases where people have a high amount of the Hepatitis B virus in their body, they may be prescribed pegulated interferon alfa, usually for a period of between 3 and 6 months.

Acute Hepatitis B

There is no specific treatment for acute Hepatitis B infection.  You will be advised to get plenty of rest and may take over the counter medications such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.  After symptoms have cleared up you will need to be tested to ensure that you have cleared the virus and not developed a chronic infection.
